- Prepare 200 grams self raising flour, wholemeal
- Get 180 grams caster sugar
- Prepare 2 large eggs
- Take 200 grams unsalted butter
- Prepare 1 piece stem ginger
- Get 1 tin pear halves in own juice
Stir in the brandy and set aside. When the cake is ready, spoon over half the syrup, then leave the cake to cool before serving with extra syrup on the side. Stir molasses, brown sugar, and ginger into the melted butter. Arrange pears cut-side down over mixture.

- Beat together butter and sugar.
- Beat eggs in a jug, and add to the mixture a little at a time with the sifted flour and mix well.

- Add this to the cake mix and mix well. Transfer to a cake tin and bake at 175°F for 20 min or untill cake is done.
- For a light glaze topping, mix in a saucepan, some icing sugar, water, the pear juice and more syrup from the stem ginger jar and heat untill thickens slightly and drizzle over the cooled cake.
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. In a large bowl, beat egg, brown sugar, molasses, melted butter and milk mixture until well blended.
